Session #1
The Fundamentals of Bargaining and Labor Management Relations: 
A Primer for the Public Sector
  • This half-day session is designed especially for new labor and management elected officials, staff and negotiating team members in the public sector. In this workshop, with a faculty of experienced representatives of unions, employers and neutrals, you will explore:
  • The top 10 things you need to know in dealing with unions, and in dealing with management
  • Overview of public sector statutes and the functions of CSMCS and PERB
  • Effective preparation for negotiations
  • Basic tenants of collective bargaining and contract administration, including strategies to strengthen your labor management relationship and discussion of different models of negotiations

We Know What You Did Last Summer (and We Have the Pictures to Prove It!): An In-Depth Look at Technology and Privacy Issues at Work
It was hard enough to learn the Internet and email. Now we're facing a new wave of technology such as social networking sites, video streaming, GPS monitoring, and seamless information sharing. Where does the workplace end and personal space begin? Take an in-depth look at emerging and established technologies, focusing on the labor-management concerns these technologies raise. The session will include:
  • Interactive review of recent technology innovations
  • Seminar and round-table discussion on free speech and privacy rights at work
  • Discussion of labor-management communications, employer policies on technology use & dispute resolution
  • Examine and debate the proper balance between privacy, free speech and workplace needs
