Dr. Wendy Benkert, CCSESA

 

 
Dr. Wendy Benkert is the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE). She has held that position since 1999. She is responsible for the fiscal oversight of $5.9 billion in budgets for all of the K-12 school districts in Orange County as well as OCDE. Wendy also sits on several state committees that provide assistance to state policy makers in introducing and passing legislation that is beneficial to the children of California and more specifically Orange County. She also provides assistance to the school districts in areas of budget development, school district organization, facility planning, modernization and construction, collective bargaining, property tax apportionment, and other areas of school district operations. Wendy believes that the primary role of business services is to support the educational program.
 
Wendy has been with OCDE since 1990. Prior to joining OCDE, she held the position of Business Manager at Fullerton Joint Union High School District and previous to that she was the Assistant Vice Provost of Graduate Studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
 
Wendy has served on several state committees, such as the Business and Administrative Services Committee, which she was chair in 2003 and County Office Finance Committee, which she chaired in 1997.  She has instructed and mentored in the CBO Mentor Program and the USC School Business Management Certificate Program and is currently a board member of the Association of Low Wealth Schools.  At the local level, she currently serves on the Orange County Treasurers Advisory and Oversight Committees, SchoolsFirst FCU Investment Advisory Committee, as well as the Orange Unified School District’s Retirement Board.
 
Dr. Benkert received her Bachelors in Business Administration from Drexel University, her Masters in Public Administration from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Southern California.
