Brian Rivas
Brian Rivas has advocated for public education in the State Capitol since 1994. As an advocate in the University of California’s office of State Governmental Relations, Brian represented the University in the Capitol on a wide range of policy issues. He especially enjoyed work on issues related to admissions and outreach and the University’s work to improve access for underrepresented communities.
 
In 2008, Mr. Rivas joined the California School Boards Association (CSBA) where he analyzes legislation and advocates the association’s positions on charter schools, facilities and collective bargaining, among other issues.
 
Additionally, he serves as a member of the Sacramento County Board of Education, and serves as a member of the California Education Coalition for Health Care Reform board representing CSBA.
 
Mr. Rivas earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public policy at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in public policy.
