Gardens
Gardens are a wonderful way for your program to introduce students to the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables; to link to academic standards in health, math, language arts, science and more; to encourage increased consumption of fruits and vegetables; and to get students active.
The California Department of Education’s Nutrition Services Division supports school (afterschool) gardens and has had funding in the past for start-up.
The California Department of Education’s A Child’s Garden of Standards links garden activities to California Education Standards for grades 2-6.
