Teamsters Local 624
Rafael Miranda has been a Union Official for almost his entire working career. He is currently the Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 624 representing Marin, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino Counties. He has been a member of the Teamsters Union for 37 years. He has also served as the Executive Officer for the International Woodworkers of America, AFL-CIO in the Northern California Timber Counties.

In 1971 he was Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps as a decorated Vietnam Disabled Veteran including two crosses of gallantry & combat action. Rafael and his wife, Cynthia, have been married for 38 years and have raised two children who have given them three grandchildren.

In 1980 he was awarded a stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities to attend the University of New York and completed studies in Labor History. He has also completed
certificated programs in Labor Law at the University of California Berkeley and attended Northern California Law School. He is fluent in English, Spanish and some American Sign language. He has testified before State Senate and Congressional Committees on issues affecting workers.

He has trained and assisted union officials in performing their various duties including organizing, negotiations, grievance investigations and preparations for arbitration. He served as
Coordinator for Joint Council of Teamsters No. 38 representing Central, Northern California and Northern Nevada. He is one of the founders of the Workplace Institute merged with CFIER to become the Center for Collaborative Solutions and has served on the CCS Board continuously.

He was part of a Labor Management Team who conducted training in Central America; Guatemala at the University of Rafael Landivar; a project which brought Labor Union Activists,
Business Community and Government Official together to develop a method of dispute resolution. He also assisted in Labor Management training for seven South East Asian Countries in Thailand funded by ILO.
