Dr. DeVera H. Heard has been an educator for 30 years. She was a teacher for 10 years ingifted and talented program and the rest of her career has been as an administrator at the elementary, intermediate, and high school levels. She served on the Santa Ana Unified SchoolDistrict management bargaining team for 10 years and is the only principal in the district to beselected as the principal of the year at the elementary and secondary levels. She currently the principal/administrator of the Community Day Intermediate/High Schools, Independent Study Program, and I.S.U.S. program in Santa Ana.
DeVera received her doctorate from the University of LaVerne in the area of school administration with a focus on employee/employer relations and bargaining. She has presented at numerous annual conferences including the CCS. She is the president of several community organizations and sits of the board of many organizations including Volunteer Center of Orange County, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Orage County Chapter, and National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
DeVera has been on the CCS Board for 8 years and is currently serves on the Mission and Vision Task Force and Executive Board.
